Mode of Examination

The Examination shall be conducted in OMR Based mode only.

Pattern of Examination

The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of objective type, multiple choice questions. There will
be no break between papers.

Subject and Syllabus of Test

The List of Subjects and their Codes for UGC – NET June 2024 are given at Appendix -II.
Syllabus for all NET Subjects can be downloaded from the UGC website: https://www.ugcnetonline.in/syllabusnew.php.The National Testing Agency will not provide the copy of syllabus to any candidate.

Medium of Question Paper

  • (i) The medium of Question Paper shall be in English & Hindi only, except language papers.
  • (ii) Option for medium of Question Paper should be carefully chosen by the Candidate, while filling the Application Form online. The option once exercised cannot be changed.
  • (iii) Candidates are required to answer in the medium as per option exercised in the Application Form.
  • (iv) In case of any ambiguity in translation/construction of a question in the exam, its English version shall be treated as final and the decision of NTA shall be final in this regard.

Marking Scheme

  • (a) Each question carries 02 (two) marks.
  • (b) For each correct response, candidate will get 02 (two) marks.
  • (c) There is no negative marking for incorrect response.
  • (d) No marks will be given for questions un-answered/un-attempted/marked for Review.
  • (e) To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as correct option.
  • (f) If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit.
  • (g) If a question is found to be incorrect and the Question is dropped, then two marks (+2) will be awarded to only to those candidates who have attempted the question. The reason could be due to human error or technical error. Since, there is no negative marking, candidate needs to choose one most appropriate option as correct answer.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC – NET June 2024

Qualifying Examination:

  1. General Eligibility:
    • General/EWS candidates need 55% marks in a Master’s Degree.
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD, and Third gender candidates require 50% marks.
  2. Provisional Applications:
    • Final-year Master’s students or those with delayed results can apply provisionally.
    • Must pass Master’s with required marks within two years or be disqualified.
  3. Third Gender Relaxation:
    • Third-gender candidates get the same relaxation as SC/ST/PwD in fees, age, and eligibility.
  4. Ph.D. Relaxation:
    • Ph.D. holders who completed their Master’s by September 19, 1991, get a 5% relaxation in marks.

Age limit and Relaxation for UGC-NET June 2024:

  1. JRF (Junior Research Fellowship):
    • Maximum age: 30 years as of June 1, 2024.
    • Up to 5 years of relaxation for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third gender, women, and candidates with research experience.
    • Candidates with an LL.M. degree get 3 years of relaxation.
    • Armed forces candidates can get up to 5 years of relaxation based on service duration.
    • Total relaxation cannot exceed 5 years.
  2. Assistant Professor:
    • No upper age limit for applying.
  3. Ph.D. Admission:
    • No upper age limit for applying.

Reservations

i. 15% of the seats for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates.
ii. 7.5% of seats Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
iii. 27% of the seats for Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates as per the Central List
iv. 10% of the seats for General-Economically Weaker Sections (General- EWS) candidates.
v. 05% of the seats in the above mentioned categories for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with 40% or more disability.

Application Form fillup process:

  1. Part I: Registration
    • Fill in basic details (name, date of birth, mobile number, email).
    • Only one email and mobile number allowed.
  2. Part II: Application Form
    • Fill in all required details (including category, address).
    • OBC-NCL as per central list only; state OBC must choose “General”.
    • EWS candidates as per government guidelines.
    • Provide complete and accurate postal address.
  3. Examination Center
    • Select four cities for the exam center preference; allocation may vary due to administrative reasons.
  4. Uploading Scanned Images
    • Photograph: Must show 80% of the face (no cap or goggles), white background. File size: 10-200 KB.
    • Signature: Full running handwriting (not capital letters). File size: 4-30 KB.
